Everyone knows the stages of recruitment.

First you select the candidates that can really do the job. This is the shortlist.

Next you rank the shortlist in order as you try to identify the best one.

To pick the shortlist you need to establish evaluation criteria.

This starts with the job description and the ideal candidate profile. The next step is the evaluation; the interview and any test you want them to sit. A way to identify the best from the short list is to select from the list of evaluation criteria three or four points you think are the most important to do the job. You will be able to measure how many of the shortlisted candidates score top marks at these.


But how do you know for sure which are the most important criteria
and what importance to allocate each?

With this problem in mind, the Ivory Office Team created the Tool for candidates evaluation.

The challenge was to measure the contribution of each skill and attribute of top executives to the value of the business.

We built a mathematical model to do just that. The model took into consideration:

The inputs of this model were the skills of the top managers while the output was the value of the company calculated as a function of the key performance indicators of the business.

The model revealed the hierarchy of importance for the skills of each of the executives as well as their weight on the impact each executive can have in the company value.

  • The most common and significant business processes and activities in a company
  • The teams/departments/individuals involved in each process and operation
  • The impact of each team/individual in the output of the process
  • The competences of each department/individual needed in each process and operation
  • The skills of the team members that generate the teams competences
  • The impact of each process in the P&L and the value of the team

Once this know-how was established, designing the Ivory Office Tool for candidates' evaluation was straightforward.

With this Tool you can calculate a "score" for each candidate. This score is expressed as a percentage from a maximum theoretical value (the score of the "Perfect candidate"). Having this score you know not only which of your candidates has the best potential to deliver high performance but also how far from the "Perfect (Ideal) candidate" each candidate is.

The calculation is based on the hierarchy of importance for the skills of each of the executives as well as their weight on the impact each executive can have in the company value.
